Or "what customers say behind our back"...

"...The thrill of finding a treasure at a good price lasts for years....I wasn't familiar with Divine's, though they have been a family run business in Monterey Park for the past 70 years. My interest was peaked when I walked in and immediately spotted a 1940's maple bookcase for only $69. Nothing wrong with it that I could see. A walnut half secretary writing desk was $595. A Baker cabinet armoire from the 1950's struck my fancy and was a deal at $895. That same cabinet would be well over $1100 on La Brea Ave. A modern deco-esque blond maple round side table by Henredon was $495. A French upholstered side chair was another steal at $229

At this point the owner, Chris Horn, started steering me towards more spectacular pieces. A John Widdecomb marble console table was in perfect condition, making an incredible addition to any room was priced at a mere $795..simply to die for. A Baker sideboard in a most unusual art deco style was $1295. My eyes settled on an Empire sofa, needing a bit of attention for $695. Mom bought one of these 25 years ago for $500 and it wasn't quite as nice as this one. Chris then dragged me over to a dining set that left me gasping...A Berkey and Gay dining set with 10 chairs (2 captains), 2 leaves and a china cabinet for $3995. If you want a less gasping set, a mahogany drop leaf table with 6 chairs was $995. Very 1930's. An enormous dark carved oak, marbled top hutch and buffet complete with a mirror was $895. Easily $1400-$1600 anywhere else. A neat little French settee was fairly priced at $597. This could be priced up to $800 at an interior design store...If you know furniture you will know what you are looking at...Of course, like all used/antique furniture stores, volume purchases may get you more negotiating room...

Happily, I have a new haunt and if like me you're a treasure hunter, bargain hunter, a decorator or into antiques, you'll have a ball at Divines."

"After purchasing my first home, the next task was the furnishings, and I knew I wanted quality vintage furniture. I next visited numerous antique malls where I found an abundance of mediocre, over-priced furniture...Just as I was about to settle on new furniture from a chain store, a friend recommended I stop at Divine's Furniture in Monterey Park.

Once I walked in, I knew my search was over. There is row upon row of quality vintage and antique furniture to choose from. I expected to be body slammed by sticker shock, but the prices are just and reasonable...My wife and I whipped out our want list and began furnishing our house.

We first purchased a pair of channel back chairs from the 1930's. The price was very fair and would have been triple in an antique mall. We began visiting Divine's every week, as something new is always arriving. As a result of our weekly visits, our house was furnished the way we wanted in a matter of a few months. I have witnessed some customers furnish a room in one trip, or do what we did and make weekly stops until you find that one perfect piece.

When you first walk in, you will meet the proprietor, Chris Horn, who is happy to answer any questions and lets you shop at your leisure. Mr. Horn is very knowledgeable about his merchandise, and it is very refreshing to meet someone who actually knows the difference between mahogany, cherry wood or oak.

I have used the layaway program a few times because if you see something you like but don't have all the funds, it's best to put it on layaway. If you don't, chances are excellent it won't be there when you come back."

"We heard about Divine's Furniture from our parents over 20 years ago. When we moved into a new house in Santa Barbara 10 years ago, we, of course, went to Divine's to see if we could find some "deals". We found a fabulous hutch for our dining room at a very fair price.

Several years ago when we liquidated an estate, Divine's gave us a great price on some furniture we had to sell. It was much better than selling it in the paper or at an estate sale.

Divine's is a great place to look for good, quality furniture at a fair price. They have a great selection and a large inventory, so we can usually find what we need or want. Although we live in Santa Barbara, we usually make "an outing to Divine's" a couple times a year just to make sure we're not missing something good.

Great prices, great service, and great "oldies" music while you shop. But only tell your "good" friends about Divine's - we don't want too much competition while we shop!"

"For the last 20 years my husband and I have been frequent shoppers at Divine's. Each shopping event is more like an adventurous outing where we continually find numerous intriguing and delightful antiques. We have purchased furniture, paintings, pottery, figurines, lamps, bronze sculptures and many other fine collectible items.

What makes these shopping events a real pleasure is the warmth and hospitality of the Horn family, the talkative Mr. Horn senior, the smiling son and daughter-in-law, along with the hard-working staff that is always willing to help. Four generations have run the family business with integrity and professionalism. It is a real pleasure to take a short spree through this antique shop."

"Suzanne, Saturday I went to Divine's...OH MY GOD! It's incredible! Thank you so much for this treasure. I think I wanted to buy almost everything they had. I found a sofa I wanted along with some end tables, a coffee table, an armoire for the bedroom, a hall tree, a curio cabinet, a bedroom set and a dining room set. Obviously, I can't buy them all now, but I'll definitely be back..."

"I love visiting your store! The music playing, places me back to a more simple time and surrounding myself with all the lovely pieces of furniture makes for a pleasant experience. I always find what I'm looking for and many times, even more. Often finding myself wishing I had a larger home to furnish! Chris, Laura and staff are always very helpful and informative with details. My most recent purchase, an antique rocker (I adore) and a rustic storage cabinet. Two years ago when I became a first time homeowner, I purchased a lovely Mediterrean dining set and a china cabinet. Keep the goods coming! Looking forward to my next visit as always".
